Exhibitions & events

We moved out!

After 4 years, 30+ exhibitions, 30+ book releases, 2 AltCom festivals and various other activities, we’ve now left our place at Mitt Möllan!

It’s been great, but now it’s over. Until we return, hopefully in a new space on the other side of the pandemic, just in timefor the parties to start.

Til then, we still have our website where you can buy books/prints/zines and see our digital online exhibitions, and we still have Fanzineverkstaden, not far from where Hybriden used to be.

Our nearest upcoming digital exhibitions:

Tusen Serier: The New Frontier
CBK: Underworld
Tusen Serier: This is Tusen Serier
CBK: Burnout
CBK: Placeholder

All dates are currently TBA, so look back here a bit later for more info.

CBK: Two digital exhibitions: Nedjem & Origin of Life

CBK presents:
Two new digital exhibitions to keep social distancing while still being able to enjoy art!

Where: hybriden.se (the exhibitions will be available for the opening)
When: Both exhibitions open Wednesday Nov 25 at 15:00
and will stay active for the foreseeable future

To celebrate the latest volumes of CBA, we invite you to see these two exhibitions from CBK of comics pages from the books. As we all know, the COVID-19 pandemic makes it difficult to show exhibitions in the usual way, so this time we’re making the exhibitions in digital form. Instead of meeting up at Hybriden to enjoy the art on the walls and mingle with wine and artists and other visitors, now you don’t even need to leave your home. Instead you can just visit the website and see them comfortably from your chair or couch or whatever you want to sit in. You can even drink your own wine and chat with friends on the internet at the same time, so it’s ALMOST like normal.

CBA and other books can be ordered from the Hybriden webshop.

Nedjem (CBA vol 48)
CBA vol 48 is about cats. Cats and the lifelong friendships we form with our furry friends. Bonds so strong and endearment so deep and ancient, it permeates our lives through time. You find cats in scary stories, in cute stories, they’re a sign of bad luck in some cultures and good luck in others, worshipped as deities or shunned like pests. Remnants of our relationships with the floofy furs are found not just all over the world, but all over the internet as well. Here’s our contribution to the Cat Library of Time.

Artists: Jonatan Rosén [SE], Henrik Rogowski [SE], Aiden Kvarnström [SE], Filip Kelava [HR], Alexandra Duma-Dancai [RO/SE], Ivana Filipović [RS/CA], Helena Menanda [SE], Ivana Armanini [HR], Mattias Elftorp [SE], Kinga Dukaj [SE].

Origin of Life (CBA vol 49)
Where were you born? Where are you from? When these questions are asked really what the person means often is, who are you?
In the new volume of CBA we want you to ask yourselves some questions. Who are humanity as a collective consciousness? Where do we come from? All these little specks of life in this big dark space of nothing, and for what?

Artists: Ana Biscaia [PT], Ivana Geček [HR], Mattias Elftorp [SE], Ivana Filipović [RS/CA], Henrik Rogowsk [SE], Leviathan [SE], Lisa Örtlund [SE].

About CBK
Since 2001, CBK has worked for a more varied and exciting comics culture in Sweden and on the international scene. The formal purpose of the organization is to support, evolve and disseminate comics with higher artistic ambitions. The main vehicle for this purpose is the international comics art magazine, CBA (C’est Bon Anthology). CBK also arranges exhibitions of comics art, lectures, the AltCom comics festival and other cultural events.
The vision is to push the boundaries of what can be done in comics, to broaden the perspective of what the comics medium is and can be, both in relation to itself and to other art forms.

CBA contains avant-garde comics from all over the world. What we’re looking for in the selection is comics with a will to experiment and a passion for storytelling, a mix of established artists and new talent, with unique creative voices and stories that matter.

The exhibitions are presented with support from Malmö Kulturnämnd.

Together against the comics shortage

Due to the ongoing Corona crisis, many comics festivals and similar events have been canceled. For many comics creators, especially new and alternative ones, this leads to a great disappointment when the few opportunities disappear for readers and creators to meet. Fosfor wants to remedy this.

Fosfor is a non-profit distribution system for comics zines. It’s part of the Hybriden webshop and is run by the non-profit cultural association CBK in collaboration with Tusen Serier and Fanzineverkstaden. Our goal is to be a platform for comics creators who normally find it difficult to reach larger audiences and to strengthen the general culture of comics self-publishing.

Especially in times like these, it’s a good idea to think collectively and do things together rather than as competing individuals. Instead of each creator trying to sell their zines, prints etc on their own, Fosfor was created as a platform where a whole lot of us can be found in the same place.

In the webshop, buyers can easily get an overview of a wide variety of comics. Sellers simply need to fill out our form for their works to be posted on the site within a short while. All profits go back to the creators themselves, we only add a small sum to cover packaging and similar costs. Through our 19 years of small press publishing, CBK has devised a smooth and secure system for sales and since we ourselves are comics creators and know what it’s like not to have a lot of resources, we want to use our capabilities to support the whole culture.

Fosfor is not a service where you hand your stuff over to someone else who sells them for profit, but rather a place for shared exchange for everyone’s benefit. When other creators share the link to Hybriden and Fosfor, it means that customers looking for other things may also find your stuff. Also, customers don’t pay for postage from several different sources, but get all their comics in one package and save money.

Of course we can’t compete with an entire comics festival, but we are working extra hard at the moment to expand our available selection and streamline the registration process for new zines to meet the needs of the current situation. All in order to achieve the feeling of meeting a myriad of comics and creators in one place.

Here you will find the Fosfor store and a form to request info about how to register your zines, prints and stickers.
And here you will find other products in the webshop, comics from: CBK, Tusen Serier and Wormgod as well as a recently published selection of prints in various techniques.

linocut horror – screenprint terror – comix branquignole

About CBA vol 47:

Science and fiction rule our lives. The laws of physics seem set in stone while the laws of man are arbitrary mirrors of the morality of the times. Gods and spirits are creations of the mind but also the explanation when comprehension fails. What lies beyond our understanding? Is it more science or something else? What dark forces lurk outside our field of vision? What machineries of death and destruction are we yet to invent in the name of money (which used to be metal and paper but is now to a great extent nothing but speculation and expectations)? What (or who) else meet in the intersection between science fiction and real science? What came first? The egg or the hatching machine?

If you can’t make it to Hybriden, you can order the book at the Hybriden webshop.

Main editor of this issue: Mattias Elftorp
The exhibition is organized with support from Malmö Kulturnämnd, the anthology with support from Kulturrådet. Exhibition printed at Fanzineverkstaden.

Lasts until: September (probably)
Opening hours from August: Wed-Fridays: 11-15, Sundays: 12-15

Release exhibition for the new volume of CBA, featuring visions of a world where stories about HBTQ+ characters don’t need to end in tragedy.

So many LGBTQ narratives end in tragedy as a consequence of the LGBTQ-hood of the characters. Those stories are important because LGBTQ people are still being targeted by prejudice, discrimination and violence, but in this volume of CBA we encouraged artists to do something different. To tell queer stories where the queerness isn’t a narrative catalyst for bad things, but rathera source for joy or love or just one characteristic among others.

Queer tales about situations involving LGBTQ characters. Utopian queer tales in the sense that everything might not be perfect, but at least the horrible things that happen don’t have anything to do with the characters’ sexual orientation.

The exhibition will feature selected pieces from the anthology, but also additional artworks by local artists such as Olivia Skoglund, newly examinated from the comic school in Malmö and working on her first book on experiences as a trans girl, Adrian Malmgren, trans/hbtq-activist and creator of the comic Wicked Hero, and Emmie Jansson, currently a student at textile arts&design at Östra Grevie. There will also be artworks by Ylva Oknelid, Mattis Telin and Lisa Örtlund on display!
